Nexus One showing “Coming soon” on Vodafone UK website.
by Chaz on Mar.12, 2010, under Android, Smartphones
It seems that Vodafone UK have listed the Nexus One as “coming soon” on vodafone.co.uk.
It is unknown at this point if Vodafone will be selling it directly rather than Google. If Vodafone do start selling it, I also wonder if it will be sim unlocked like the one from Google in the U.S? The wait continues!

Opera Mini 5 released on Android Market.
by Chaz on Mar.11, 2010, under Android, Software
Today Opera released Opera Mini 5 on the Android Market. Initial impressions from me are, it’s FAST! The compression done by Opera’s servers make pages render on your handset very quickly, even on a GPRS connection.
Engadget have posted a brief but nice little review of it here and seem just as impressed with its speed. If you’re an Android user, give it a spin! It’s free afterall!

I’ve just uploaded a video of Raging Thunder 2 racing game from Polarbit running on the Nexus One.
It’s the best Android game I’ve seen so far and plays really well! It’s available on both Apple’s App Store and the Android Market.

Swype beta for Android now open to signup to.
by Chaz on Mar.07, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software

I’ve just gotten a Google alert which let me know that a Swype open beta was now available.
Swype is a different keyboard input system for Android where you slide your finger to each letter on the virtual keyboard and it will transfer any letters you stop on into words.
I’ve just tried it on my Archos 5 Internet Tablet and it works very well! Definately worth signing up to the beta.

Cross platform gaming heaven: Single game running on Windows Phone Series 7, Windows and XBOX360!
by Chaz on Mar.06, 2010, under Smartphones, Software
Here is an interesting video. It shows a single game being played on Windows, XBOX360 and Windows Phone series 7!
Microsoft’s Eric Rudder, speaking at TechEd Middle East, showed off a game developed in Visual Studio as a singular project (with 90% shared code) that plays on Windows with a keyboard, a Windows Phone 7 Series prototype device with accelerometer and touch controls, and the Xbox 360 with the Xbox gamepad. Interestingly, not only is the development cross-platform friendly, but the game itself saves its place and lets you resume from that spot on whichever platform you happen to pick up.
That last bit sounds very interesting! Being able to continue a game nomatter where you are would be a very nice feature.

Google stands behind HTC in the recent Apple lawsuit.
by Chaz on Mar.03, 2010, under Android, Apple, Smartphones, Software
Google have backed HTC in Apple’s recent lawsuit against HTC. TechCrunch emailed Google about the recent lawsuit and received the following response:
“We are not a party to this lawsuit. However, we stand behind our Android operating system and the partners who have helped us to develop it,”
Apple’s recent lawsuit against HTC seems to be directed at features in Android OS so if Google will eventually be targeted by Apple remains to be seen.
