Video: Raging Thunder II running on the Nexus One.

by Chaz on Mar.08, 2010, under Android, Apple, Smartphones, Software

I’ve just uploaded a video of Raging Thunder 2 racing game from Polarbit running on the Nexus One.

It’s the best Android game I’ve seen so far and plays really well! It’s available on both Apple’s App Store and the Android Market.

Swype beta for Android now open to signup to.

I’ve just gotten a Google alert which let me know that a Swype open beta was now available.

Swype is a different keyboard input system for Android where you slide your finger to each letter on the virtual keyboard and it will transfer any letters you stop on into words.
I’ve just tried it on my Archos 5 Internet Tablet and it works very well! Definately worth signing up to the beta. :)

Cross platform gaming heaven: Single game running on Windows Phone Series 7, Windows and XBOX360!

by Chaz on Mar.06, 2010, under Smartphones, Software

Here is an interesting video. It shows a single game being played on Windows, XBOX360 and Windows Phone series 7!

Microsoft’s Eric Rudder, speaking at TechEd Middle East, showed off a game developed in Visual Studio as a singular project (with 90% shared code) that plays on Windows with a keyboard, a Windows Phone 7 Series prototype device with accelerometer and touch controls, and the Xbox 360 with the Xbox gamepad. Interestingly, not only is the development cross-platform friendly, but the game itself  saves its place and lets you resume from that spot on whichever platform you happen to pick up.

That last bit sounds very interesting! Being able to continue a game nomatter where you are would be a very nice feature.

Google stands behind HTC in the recent Apple lawsuit.

by Chaz on Mar.03, 2010, under Android, Apple, Smartphones, Software

Google have backed HTC in Apple’s recent lawsuit against HTC. TechCrunch emailed Google about the recent lawsuit and received the following response:

We are not a party to this lawsuit. However, we stand behind our Android operating system and the partners who have helped us to develop it,”

Apple’s recent lawsuit against HTC seems to be directed at features in Android OS so if Google will eventually be targeted by Apple remains to be seen.

Apple targeting Android in HTC lawsuit?

by Chaz on Mar.02, 2010, under Android, Apple, Smartphones, Software

Interesting developments regarding the HTC lawsuits:

There’s no delicate way to put this: at least part of Apple’s patent lawsuit against HTC appears to be a proxy fight for a larger issue with Android as a whole.

Things could get interesting between Google and Apple.

Orange and T-Mobile UK merger approved by the European Union

by Chaz on Mar.02, 2010, under Uncategorized

The mobile phone operators in the UK have been given EU approval on their merger making the network 29.5 million customers strong when the deal is finalised.

Today, the European Commission informed Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom that it has granted clearance for the proposed merger of their UK-business operations. The implementation of the integration measures can start immediately. The closing of the transaction is expected in Spring.

As an Orange user I hope this leads to good things for both sides (T-Mobile and Orange customers).

Apple sues HTC for alleged patent infringement.

by Chaz on Mar.02, 2010, under Apple, Smartphones, Software

Apple have sued HTC for infringing 20 iPhone patents.

CUPERTINO, California—March 2, 2010—Apple® today filed a lawsuit against HTC for infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Should be interesting. HTC have been in the smartphone game longer than Apple and have two very strong partners (Microsoft and Google) who they regularly manufacture and develop phones for.
