Steve Jobs on Google – He has me confused….
by Chaz on Jan.31, 2010, under Android, Apple
With the recent reports of Steve Jobs supposedly saying “We did not enter the search business. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We wont let them” I couldn’t help but feel confused.
First off, the “We did not enter the search business part.”. Whilst that is true, it hasn’t stopped Apple from acquiring Quattro, an advertising company. That seems to step a little on the toes of Google’s core business, advertising.
The 2nd part is on “They entered the phone business”. Google bought Android INC back in 2005 (source), 2 years before the announcement of the iPhone. Is Steve Jobs really that nieve that Google would invest in such a project without releasing it on smartphones?
My Nexus One: DEAD! – Update, it’s fixed.
by Chaz on Jan.30, 2010, under Android, Smartphones
Well, it seems my 8 day old Nexus One thought it would be better off dead than spend its life downloading apps, playing games, browsing the web and listening to music with me as it has kicked the bucket!
I spent all morning on it browsing and listening to music on the sofa when it warned me it was getting low on power. I put it on to charge and moved on to my Archos 5 and after two hours I went to see how much charge my Nexus One had.
The trackball was flashing so I tried to wake it using the sleep/wake button but nothing. I then unplugged it from my computer and tried again, still nothing. A quick browse of the HTC support lead me to the Nexus One support troubleshooter.
I selected:
- I’m having trouble with my device
- I need help troubleshooting device issues
- My device is broken or won’t turn on
- The screen on my device won’t unlock
Which gave me this answer:
Please follow these steps:
- Remove the battery from your phone
- Wait 15 seconds
- Replace your battery and try turning on your phone again
If the screen on your device still won’t unlock, there may be a hardware defect with your phone. Please view our warranty information.
This didn’t fix the issue at all so now it’s up to HTC UK Support to fix or replace my phone.
This should be fun!

Just a quick update from Engadget – Nexus One users on T-Mobile now have their 3g connections back.

All’s well that ends well.
Wptogo Android app test. WordPress post editor for Android!
by Chaz on Jan.29, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software
This is just a quick test of the Android app, wpTOgo which is available on the Android Market.
Seems very easy to configure and also works well on my Archos 5 Internet Tablet. If it is successful, this will make posting wherever I am far easier!

Nexus One internet issues for T-Mobile customers in the U.S.
by Chaz on Jan.29, 2010, under Android
Engadget have posted a news on issues for Nexus One owners using T-Mobile in the U.S. One of their own writers has issues with his Nexus One and many others have posted on the T-Mobile and Google forums about their problems too.
I’ve never before seen an issue like this that affects a single handset on the network so I have no ideas what is going on. It will be interesting how this ends up.
(For info, this hasn’t been an issue for me in the UK on Orange so it suggests to me it is a T-Mobile issue)

Adobe blog: “iPad users will not be able to access the full range of web content”
by Chaz on Jan.28, 2010, under Apple
Adobe is on the offensive with the iPad (just as it has been in the past on the lack of Flash support on the iPhone)
Unlike many other ebook readers using the ePub file format, consumers will not be able to access ePub content with Apple’s DRM technology on devices made by other manufacturers. And without Flash support, iPad users will not be able to access the full range of web content, including over 70% of games and 75% of video on the web.
Apple and Fujitsu in looming iPad name dispute?
by Chaz on Jan.28, 2010, under Apple
New York Times has an article that suggests Fujitsu may end up in a legal dispute over the iPad name after Apple’s iPad tablet announcement.
Fujitsu, which applied for an iPad trademark in 2003, is claiming first dibs, setting up a fight with Apple over the name of the new tablet device that Apple plans to sell starting in March.
“It’s our understanding that the name is ours,” Masahiro Yamane, director of Fujitsu’s public relations division, said Thursday. He said Fujitsu was aware of Apple’s plans to sell the iPad tablet and that the company was consulting lawyers over next steps.
