First glimpse Symbian^4 demo videos

by Chaz on Feb.27, 2010, under Smartphones, Software

There have been 2 “first glimpse” videos released featuring Symbian^4′s UI:

Homescreen UI:

Gallery UI:

The new UI looks very finger friendly and touch centric but these early videos lack some polish. Hopefully it will look more polished once released and there is no reason to think it won’t as these to seem to be very early previews.

Nexus One to be released in the UK in April.

by Chaz on Feb.26, 2010, under Android, Smartphones

The Telegraph have reported that the Nexus One will be sold directly in the U.K in April through the www.google.com/phone webstore, available subsidised on the Vodafone network.

Google’s Nexus One, the company’s first own-brand mobile phone, will launch in the UK in April. It will be on sale through Google.com/phone only, as the company has previously announced. Tariffs have not been announced, but the Nexus One is likely to be priced very similarly to comparable smartphones such as the iPhone.

According to the article it will only be sold through the Google webstore but both Play.com and Expansys are already selling the Nexus One in the UK.

I’ve got a new computer! Dell Mini 9 Hackintosh.

by Chaz on Feb.25, 2010, under Uncategorized

I’ve recently acquired a Dell Mini 9 Netbook and have set about installing Mac OS X Leopard on it.

It’s a very nice little machine, the Leopard installation was fiddly but easy (the 8GB SSD didn’t help) but i finally have it set up how I want it.

I’ve added it to the “my computers” section and I’m posting from it right now :)

Motorola Droid Vs Nexus One Video

by Chaz on Feb.20, 2010, under Android, Smartphones

Technobuffalo have posted a video of the Nexus One Vs the Motorola Droid.

An interesting little video comparing 2 of the hard hitting Android handsets availalbe in the United States.

There is not much in either handset but the advantages of Verizon’s network in the US puts it ahead of the Nexus One from what I saw. :)

Engadget hands on of the Dell Mini 5 Tablet/phone

by Chaz on Feb.19, 2010, under Android, Smartphones

Engadget have posted a nice hands on of their time with the Dell Mini 5.

Dell Mini 5

Dell’s puzzled the world for quite some time with its outlandish Mini 5 — at first glance it’s just anotherAndroid-based MID, but a quick fiddle with it reveals the full-fledged 3G phone inside. So will it fit in a pocket? Can we carry it around like a normal phone? Is this the future form factor that will bring the ultimate balance between portability and practicality? With such heavy dose of curiosity, we eventually traveled all the way to Shenzhen literally just to grab this prototype. Now, before you read on, do bear in mind that some of its features – especially the OS — may not make it to the final design when it comes out later this year, nor do we know what stage this prototype was at. We good? OK.

What does it have? (remember this is non final hardware/software)

  • Android OS 1.6
  • 800 x 480 Capitative touchscreen
  • Snapdragon QSD8250 CPU @ 1GHz
  • WCDMA Radio
  • 405MB Ram
  • 1.63GB Internal storage
  • Micro SD card slot

For more info and pics, read the Engadget hands on below!
