bTunes music player for Android. Just like iPhone or iPod touch in your Android!
by Chaz on Apr.12, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software
I saw this app mentioned in the comments of an article recently and the comment sparked my interest when it said that bTunes was just like the iPod app from the iPod touch and iPhone.
In the video below you can see the similarities between the two.
Its pretty good but is missing things like coverflow. One useful enhancement it has is the ability to go to the next or previous track by simply swiping on the album art left or right or double tapping on the album art to pause and resume playback.
It also features a homescreen widget and lockscreen controls so you have plenty of ways to control playback. A good app overall and it is available on the android market. ![]()

Marvin Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator for Android.
by Chaz on Apr.11, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software

I found this on Android Market yesterday.
It emulates the old Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k and 128k models and has some good features like on-screen Spectrum keyboard, Kempston Joystick emulation and (best of all) you can download many hundreds of ZX spectrum applications from within the app via worldofspectrum.org!
The emulator runs fine on my Nexus One and I have seen a positive review from a HTC Desire owner in the Android Market bit I am unsure how well it runs on older handsets. Definately worth a download if you were a child of the 80′s with a Spectrum! ![]()

The wait is almost over!
Over 9000 Android apps added to Android Market in March.
by Chaz on Apr.08, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software
Anrdoidlib have posted updated stats for Application submissions for the month of March which shows a staggering 9308 application submissions!
Android Market is growing healthily and now has a over 40,000 apps and games in the Android market, not a bad statistic.
It’s still dwarfed by Apple’s App store but both stores already have an immense selection of applications and games to choose from now that customers of either platform should have plenty of variety. More graphs and information can be found in the link below

doubleTwist – Now with Android Market app search!
by Chaz on Mar.31, 2010, under Uncategorized
doubleTwist has recently been updated to include the ability io search for Android Market apps within the doubleTwist application.
I’ve not tried the update yet as I am currently using Banshee in the Ubuntu 10.4 beta to sync music with my Nexus One but I will give doubleTwist a whirl if the Android Market search feature ends up turning out good.
doubleTwist is turning into one of the most Android friendly sync applications available on Mac and Windows!
ThickButtons Android Keyboard, for those with fat fingers!
by Chaz on Mar.23, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software
Here is an interesting keyboard replacement for Android, it’s called ThickButtons and it dynamically changes expected keypresses to fatter keys.
It’s not a bad keyboard replacement and works quite well but I did feel I was a little slower when typing as I had to adjust to the moving keys as they enlarged.
The app is available on the Anrdoid Market for free. Scan the QR code below or search for “thickbuttons” on the Market.

Swype beta for Android now open to signup to.
by Chaz on Mar.07, 2010, under Android, Smartphones, Software

I’ve just gotten a Google alert which let me know that a Swype open beta was now available.
Swype is a different keyboard input system for Android where you slide your finger to each letter on the virtual keyboard and it will transfer any letters you stop on into words.
I’ve just tried it on my Archos 5 Internet Tablet and it works very well! Definately worth signing up to the beta.
