Does the Dell Streak suffer a 30FPS limit like the Evo? (Archos 5, Nexus One and Dell Streak benchmarks) [Video]
by Chaz on Jun.28, 2010, under Android, Smartphones
A friend of mine asked me to run a few benchmarks of my Evo to compare so I made this little video and discovered a similar issue that the Evo may have faced:
As you can see from the Video, in the FPS2D benchmark and the An3DBench benchmarks the Dell Streak doesn’t go over 30FPS at all.
Dell Streak:
- FPS2D result: 29 fps average
- An3DBench – Multiple Lights: 29.22 fps
- An3DBench – Keyframe Animation: 29.20 fps
Archos 5 Internet Tablet
- FPS2D result: 49 fps average
- An3DBench – Multiple Lights: 43.97 fps
- An3DBench – Keyframe Animation: 49.83 fps
Nexus One:
- FPS2D result: 60 fps average
- An3DBench – Multiple Lights: 53.59 fps
- An3DBench – Keyframe Animation: 60.38 fps
I’m not sure if it is a 30FPS limit on the streak but from what I’ve seen here, it may be the case.
Dell Streak comparisons: iPod Touch, Nexus One and Archos 5 Internet Tablet [Pictures]

Here is a little gallery of pictures of my new Dell Streak comparing it to my iPod touch, Nexus One and my Archos 5 Internet Tablet.
The Streak is an extremely slim device but feels a tad large for phone use. For web browsing the larger screen is perfect and produces good colours. Only the AMOLED screen on my Nexus One looks better but the Streak has the advantage of better visibility in sunlight.
Compared to my Archos 5 Internet Tablet, the streak is faster and more stable than Android on the Archos. Both run Android 1.6 so there is no advantage over the other except for full support for Android Market on the Streak with copy protected apps. Only the non copy protected apps show up on my Archos with the Android Market hack.
Overall I’m impressed with the streak and having 1,664MB of app storage avaiable compared to my Nexus One’s 196MB and my Archos 5′s 138MB means that the Streak will have plenty of storage for apps. The included 16GB Micro SD card leaves plenty of room for media too.
I’m very happy with it so far!
Hardware shown:
- Apple iPod Touch 32GB (In Belkin case)
- HTC Google Nexus One
- Archos 5 Internet Tablet
- Dell Streak

Engadget hands on of the Dell Mini 5 Tablet/phone
by Chaz on Feb.19, 2010, under Android, Smartphones
Engadget have posted a nice hands on of their time with the Dell Mini 5.
Dell’s puzzled the world for quite some time with its outlandish Mini 5 — at first glance it’s just anotherAndroid-based MID, but a quick fiddle with it reveals the full-fledged 3G phone inside. So will it fit in a pocket? Can we carry it around like a normal phone? Is this the future form factor that will bring the ultimate balance between portability and practicality? With such heavy dose of curiosity, we eventually traveled all the way to Shenzhen literally just to grab this prototype. Now, before you read on, do bear in mind that some of its features – especially the OS — may not make it to the final design when it comes out later this year, nor do we know what stage this prototype was at. We good? OK.
What does it have? (remember this is non final hardware/software)
- Android OS 1.6
- 800 x 480 Capitative touchscreen
- Snapdragon QSD8250 CPU @ 1GHz
- WCDMA Radio
- 405MB Ram
- 1.63GB Internal storage
- Micro SD card slot
